Until Then...

While I realize that this picture is not of a swallow, I have to say that seeing it sweetly nesting in the Western Wall that day easily took my heart to Psalm 84...

"Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young - a place near Your altar, Lord Almighty, my King and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in Your house; they are ever praising You."

We have a family of swallows who return to our home each April. They have turned what was once a small nest in our carport into a family-sized bird mansion, as they multiply and remain throughout each summer. It never ceases to amaze me how they know to come back home to us each year.

The psalmist expressed almost a beautiful jealousy of these creatures that could soar and make their homes as near to the altar of the Lord as they desired.

If only we could make our homes at His feet...

If only we could build our lives in His Presence...

If only we could draw near to the heart of the Father as if wings were carrying us into the heavens...

Oh wait. We can.

While I cannot physically build a home near the throne, my Jesus has gone to build one for me. I will by faith until then.

While I cannot take up residence where I belong just yet, my Jesus paved the way for me to do so one day. I will build my life on that hope until then.

While I cannot defy gravity and be where He is now, my Jesus is coming soon to give me a body that can. I will wait with anticipation until then.

The word "restoration" is on my heart in the midst of all of the winged ponderings.

Just as the swallows return home to where they know that they belong, one day my heart will travel to what is truly home. One day my citizenship in heaven will be fully realized, and complete restoration of the relationship between God and man will be complete. One day faith will become sight.

What a day that will be...

Father, my heart's desire is to see You, to dwell in Your house, to gaze on You constantly. Thank You for sending Your Son to make a way for me to rise to You one day...to go home. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
