You Must Follow Me

I wonder how many have fallen into the mindset that Peter was stepping into that day. That day that the Lord had made breakfast for him and his friends. That day that the Lord questioned him of his love for Him. That day that his calling and life plan were laid out in front of him...yet his eyes drifted back to John.

"Lord, what about him?"

Is that not what we do? We compare ourselves to those around us. Not all are confident and assured of what the Lord wants our lives to be, so we look around at others and try to mimic or long for what they have. In other cases, we do know the call placed on our lives...yet we are distracted from accomplishing it because our eyes are on someone else's calling.

Rather than camping out in the obvious tent of disillusionment to think that I can stop myself from comparing myself with others on my own, I choose today to hone in on what the Lord said:

"If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow Me."

Sure, it is difficult to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus when the obvious view that they land on is the scenery of other people; however, He makes the point that it is crucial to do so. It sounds like He was basically telling Peter that John's journey was none of his business.

I challenge you today to concentrate on knowing what path the Lord has chosen for you. Then follow Him rather than someone else on his/her own journey. Comparison is the enemy of contentment, so find rest in keeping your eyes on Him alone.

Father, I am tired of comparing myself to other people. It leaves me feeling insecure, not good enough, not worthy of what You want to do in my life. I trust You, and I choose to follow You. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

John 21:15-25, Hebrews 12:1-2
