But Have Not Love...

I am drawn this morning to what the apostle Paul said about love...or rather the lack of it.

"Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing."

I could walk in a powerful anointing, allowing the hand of God to touch this earth through me, but if my heart is not filled with His love for the people He is ministering to through me...it profits ME nothing. I am nothing. Yes, the people still feel Him. Yes, those moved by that anointing are affected because of it, but I am left with nothing.

It is dangerous to just want the anointing, to just want to operate in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and feel God working through you. I think of when Jesus spoke of those who would say, "Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?" He let us know that these things would not impress Him. He is looking for fruit. We are known by our fruit, not our anointing. He will say to those people that He never knew them.

I cannot bear the thought of Him saying to me that He never knew me!

While it is intoxicating to feel Him moving through you to do what you cannot on your own, I urge you and myself to check the love measurement. I never want to be content with just feeling Him move and seeing Him do amazing things. I want His heart. I don't want to "gain the whole world" in being seen as one anointed by God, yet have nothing when it comes to me and Him.

May the oil of His presence that saturates us and empowers us to do His work be an overflow of our love relationship with Him, rather than a replacement for it. Lord, we need Your love.

Father, I love feeling Your anointing in ministry, but I never want that feeling to take precedence over having love for Your people. Please fill me with Your heart for the lost, Your heart for the world. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
