Enabled

October 31, 2019

This word has a negative connotation now, to say the least.  It refers to one who is trying to help out of love; however, it is the type of help that is crippling, and causes the one "helped" to remain in bondage.

Why do we enable?  I believe there are several reasons that can be pinpointed in different situations.

We do not want to see anyone reach rock-bottom.

We do not want anyone to fall, when we are able to keep them afloat.

And...we want to be seen as "helping".

The negative vibe this word gives off in our society today causes my mind to automatically think of these types of relationships when I read/hear it.  What about a good vibe?  Maybe you need a positive connotation in your world today.  I do.

We are enabled to walk by faith...because the Lord has given to each a measure of faith.

We are enabled to live by the Spirit...because the Lord gave us His Spirit.

We are enabled to stand firm in spiritual warfare...because the Lord gave us His armor.

We are enabled to step into His arms one day when this life ends...because the Lord gave us His Son.

We aren't able to live in a way that pleases the Lord until we are enabled to do so by the Lord.

I challenge you (and myself) to take inventory of relationships in which there is an element of enabling.  Truth can be spoken in love.  May we reach out and "help" in ways that bring deliverance, rather than further bondage.

I challenge you, also, to recognize the enabling and empowering gift of the Lord through His Son, His Spirit, His Word...through Himself in your life.

He doesn't tighten the grip of your chains - He shatters them.

Father, You have enabled me to walk in You, and I am forever thankful.  Help me not to enable others to remain in darkness, but enable me to shine Your light to bring change in their lives.  In Jesus' Name.  Amen.
