Time to Teach
While it can be difficult to stir hunger in people to want to study the Word, I believe that this is a necessary endeavor...and one in which we should never relent. But how do we achieve it?
It has been on my heart - and praise the Lord we have gotten started - to break down the Word in a systematic way for the youth in Sunday School. What I had not planned on encountering, however, was the challenge of this "breaking down" having the feeling of actual school...and wrapping the teaching in a package that could be digested by all.
Is this why we sometimes shy away from certain topics? When something is difficult, we tend to back up and punt. We need to realize that the enemy does not want the body of Christ to know the Word! We should not expect a challenge-less journey ahead when it comes to breaking the Bread of Life. But may the challenges never cause us to throw in the towel.
In Nehemiah chapter 8, the people who had returned to Jerusalem from captivity heard the Word from the mouth of Ezra the scribe. They all stood as he opened the Book and read to them. But what stands out to me is this:
"So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense, and helped them to understand the reading."
It is my prayer that the Lord raises up teachers who know and live the Word of God to teach the Body of Christ in truth. It is also my prayer for hunger to know and understand the Word to be stirred. I ask you to stand in agreement with me that a revival of hearing and doing, putting into practice every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God, is sparked in our world today.
Heaven and earth will pass away. All of our temporary issues will pass away. All of our good, warm and fuzzy feelings in church will pass away. His Word will never pass away.
Father, Your Word is infallible. It is constant and eternal. I ask You to help us to teach and train, to help us to encourage understanding. I ask You to stir hunger in Your body to know Your Word and to do it. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
