The Day of...Salvation
Today is the highest and holiest day on the Jewish calendar: Yom Kippur. The Day of Atonement. This is the day that marks the one time a year that the high priest went behind the veil to make atonement for himself, his house and the nation of Israel. There was sacrifice and fasting involved. To this day it is honored with fasting and affliction of the soul.
We who are of the seed of Abraham by faith also celebrate atonement for our sins. We have a High Priest who made a sacrifice once that was sufficient for eternity. Does this mean that we are exempt from reflection and repentance? I believe all the more we should make certain that our lives remain spotless in testimony of that perfect sacrifice. That once-for-all offering of Life in death for us.
Today is the Day of Atonement. Today is the Day of Salvation. Today is always the day of salvation. There is life found in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. We don't have to be Bible scholars - understanding the ins and outs of each feast He put in place - to receive freedom from sin. We just have to believe.
Do you truly believe that there is no possible way that you can atone for yourself? Do you truly believe that the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ which He offered upon the mercy seat in heaven for you is enough to wash you and make you clean? Then I dare you to renew your commitment to Him today.
You don't have to depend upon a man to offer a sacrifice of a young goat for you today. You don't have to depend upon a man to confess your sins over a scapegoat to be released into the wilderness for you today. While this was crucial in time past for man to remain connected to the Most Holy God, there has been atonement provided for you through the Lamb. Through Jesus.
This may seem elementary in its message, but sometimes we need elementary. Sometimes we need to go back to the beginning and remember our first love. I urge you to remember the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ today. Not only that He gave His life, but also that He did so on YOUR behalf. I challenge you to allow Him to bring about fresh renewal in your heart today.
Today is the day of salvation. Praise God!!!
Father, thank You for providing a perfect, spotless Lamb to take my place. I don't deserve it, and I will never be able to...but You gave Your Son anyway. I receive what Jesus did on the cross today and forever. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
