A couple of mornings ago in prayer a familiar verse came to mind, yet I heard it in a very unfamiliar way. It is amazing to me what the Lord can show us through one word.
"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." John 10:10
That they might have life? The word might indicates that there is also a "might not" scenario possible. Jesus came that we MIGHT have life, and that we MIGHT have it more abundantly. So does that mean that He didn't complete what He came to do? He absolutely completed what He came to do! So what's the "might" about then?
It's on us. We have a choice. Just as Moses spoke to the children of Israel as they prepared to enter the promised land, the Lord has set before us life and death...blessing and cursing. We must choose life. Obedience to the Lord equals life and blessing. Disobedience leads us down a path of destruction.
Jesus went to the cross so that all might have life in Him. Sadly, only a remnant of humanity choose this life. The door has been swung open to all who would enter in, as the price has already been paid. However, the Lord will not force us to walk over the threshold into His arms. It's a choice that must be made.
I urge you to choose life in Him today. Choose to humble yourself, turn from your own ways and seek His face. Surrender leads to freedom. Obedience leads to blessing. Choosing Jesus leads to life. Choose life.
Father, You have set before us life and death, and You have given us the ability to choose. I choose You. Whatever it requires of me, I choose You. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
