What Are You Wearing?
I am so honored and blessed to have the opportunity to pour into the lives of a group of teens and young adults. After a memorable and humorous visual of application of the Word of God with them, I want to share a portion of what the Lord stirred in me at last night's Bible study.
We choose what we wear daily, and I am not referring to picking out an outfit that looks good. What are you wearing spiritually? Galatians speaks of the difference between the fruit of the Spirit and the works of the flesh. Romans encourages us to put on the Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians urges us to put off the old man and to put on the new. What are you wearing?
Bartimaeus was a blind man who found out that the Lord Jesus was coming his direction. He called for Him, and despite those who tried to silence him - he called out for Jesus all the more. Jesus stood still and called for Bartimaeus to be brought to Him. What happened next is what gets my attention.
"And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus."
Oftentimes the garment is a representation of who you are. I see this personally as Bartimaeus laying aside the old man to be able to embrace the new. I watched a couple of teens put on multiple jackets last night, and then I struggled to put one on top of all of them to represent Christ and His righteousness. We can't wear both!
I dare you to lay aside who you are on your own - your issues, what tempts you, even your own righteousness - and make room to wear Christ today. And tomorrow. And the next day. We are to take up the cross daily...so please daily choose the right garment before the wrong ones choose you.
Father, I choose to lay myself down, to lay this flesh aside and run to You. I want to be clothed in the Lord Jesus Christ, putting off the old man and its desires. Cover me one more time today. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
