Prayer. A vital portion of a walk with the Lord that I feel strongly is under attack. Why would Satan fight against this part of your life so much? One thing I know - if he is doing all he can to hinder something I am doing, then I should be doing everything I can to do it all the more.
The Lord gave a model to His disciples upon their request for Him to teach them how to pray. I challenge you to put this model into practice daily and watch how He transforms and deepens your relationship with Him. Let's break it down this week, so that we can digest it well and live it.
"Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."
P - Praise and surrender
"Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."
Rather than entering a conversation with the Lord as if you were lecturing Him and giving Him a to-do list, I challenge you to start off by realizing who He is. He is your Father and the Almighty God! His Name is holy. His Name is great and greatly to be praised. When we approach Him with praise on our lips, entering His gates with thanksgiving, our hearts and minds are framed correctly to enjoy the time alone with Him in His Presence.
I challenge you to praise Him more than you ever have today. If you have a hard time stirring up praise in your prayer time, just remember who you were before He saved you. Remember something specific that He brought you through...then thank Him all over again. He is always God and always worthy of our worship.
We are then ready to lay down our own will and get into agreement with His. It is a lot easier to surrender your to-do list for His will when you begin with worship. You truly begin to decrease, so that He can increase in your life.
Father, You are so holy. You are high and lifted up, and the train of Your robe fills the temple. When I choose to see You as best I can, I truly see myself and know that I want Your will to be done. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
