To the Broken
There is a line in one of my favorite songs that seems to be resounding to me the past several days, as loss has penetrated and overwhelmed...
"You hold on to all my pain, and with it You are pulling me closer, pulling me into Your ways."
It is easy for us to say that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted - until our hearts are broken. But I know whom I have believed, and I know that His Word is truth despite the circumstances that threaten to cause us to cave in and relinquish our stance. He truly is near to the brokenhearted; though He doesn't always remove the suffering, He holds us closer and reveals Himself in a way that we couldn't have grasped without the pain.
Moses had to be hidden in a cleft of the rock that was near the Lord, and then covered by God's hand to experience some of His glory. The cleft of the rock. The broken place of the constant One. The suffering of Christ.
I urge you today to allow Him to hold on to your pain and pull you closer to Him. Allow Him to tuck you into the cleft of the Rock and cover you with His hand. Yes, it will be a time of darkness, with a feeling of separation from all that seemed to hold you steady in the light. But by the authority of His Word, I declare to you that He is near. That when the light breaks again as He withdraws His hand, you will see Him in a way that you couldn't have before this.
Take heart, hold on...turn the brokenness into worship. One day all tears will be wiped away from your eyes, and you will see fully the One who held you so faithfully. And it will be worth every moment spent inside the Rock.
Father, I am so glad that You are constant and faithful, and that You know the end from the beginning. I trust You through each circumstance to accomplish Your eternal purpose. Please bring the peace and comfort that only You can. In Jesus' Name. Amen
