I worked in the preschool environment for many years, so I am keenly aware that each individual child has a claim on the specific toy or doll that he/she admires. It is theirs only...in their eyes. Of course, it also belongs to the child sitting beside them. "Mine!" is a frequently used phrase, and it is something I believe the Lord wants us to take hold of and claim for ourselves...oh, the irony.
Jesus stated to two of the churches in Revelation to "hold fast what you have". To me, this means to cling to what is ours without the thought of letting go. Have you ever received a healing from the Lord? Hold fast. Have you received a promise from the Lord? Hold fast. Have you been filled with joy unspeakable and full of glory in His Presence? Hold fast to it!!
As much as I would love to proclaim that the blessings I have received from the Lord have never been open to attack from the enemy, that would be a lie. The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. He lies in wait to snatch the seed sown along the path. He lies in wait to ambush you at a vulnerable moment to take what you have been given. Hold fast!!
I love the way Jude, the brother of Jesus, worded it in his letter:
"Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints."
Contend for the faith. Fight for what you have been given in Christ. Hold on to His Word, and make up your mind to never let it go. Let no one take your crown. Let no issue cause you to forfeit what is yours. Let no sin cause you to fumble on the way to the end zone.
I dare you to stand your ground, remember all that you have been given from the Father, and with all of the faith you can muster cry out, "Mine!"
Father, thank You that every good and perfect gift comes from above...comes from You. Help us to fight to hold onto them. I don't want to forfeit Your blessings when the theif comes to steal them. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
