I was in the post office today, and as I waited my turn in line a woman let me know kindly that she would take a little longer getting her needs ready. She turned to me and said, "Feel free to pass me...", and this statement stood out to me so strongly. I could have looked at her and another gentleman working on each of their packages and assumed my place ahead of them in line, but I am typically the type to wait for permission. I wonder, how often do we "feel free" to do what we need to do?
Do we recognize that the chains of sin have been broken and that we don't have to remain attached to them any longer? Do we trust that the same God who saved us for eternity is able to keep us from living in the prison cell of pesky bondages while in this flesh? Feel free to step away from the sin that so easily besets you. Stop waiting for your flesh to "feel" like laying it down and just choose to get rid of it. Stop waiting for permission from Satan to walk away - take your place in the kingdom of God!
I heard an interesting line on a movie the other night. The gentleman had escaped from prison multiple times and was being interviewed on how it was done. In essence he said that escaping prison is easy, but what is hard is staying free. It didn't hit me until later, but when it did I thought, "Whoa, that is so true."
We have been given freedom in Christ. Let's stay free. Let us not become entangled again in the yoke of bondage, but let us hold up the banner of freedom for all those who remain behind bars - showing them the way out.
Feel free to shake yourself loose from the chains binding you today. No prison cell should contain the Light within you.
Father, it is for freedom that Christ has set us free, so please help us to walk in it. You did not give us a spirit that makes us slaves again to fear. I trust You to accomplish the biggest prison break within Your body, Lord. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
