Behavior in Captivity

Have you ever read about Daniel and wondered if you could have handled things the way he did? I'm not really talking about the lions' den situation, either - although, that presents even more of a challenge. No, I'm talking about the fact that the part of his life that is written about and detailed for us in Scripture ALL took place outside of the promised land.

His integrity, favor with God, and spirit of excellence in all that he did stood out - in enemy territory! The life he lived in his hometown kingdom of Judah isn't even mentioned in the Word, except that he was from there. What was put on display for all to read about for years to come was how he responded in he behaved in a land that didn't worship his God.

I'm just curious, but would our response and behavior if we were forced to live outside of our "supposed to" circumstances be worth recording in ink? He was taken from his home and forced to train for three years to serve King Nebuchadnezzar...yeah, SERVE this foreign, pagan king that destroyed his home. And he did it well!! He served to the best of his ability!!

Daniel chose integrity despite the lack of integrity of the man he was serving. David chose to worship God through his behavior, rather than using his circumstances and location as an excuse to do anything less.

I challenge you and myself to choose integrity despite the lack of integrity around us. Let us choose to worship God through our behavior, doing the best that we can in all that we do. We shouldn't have to be in the promised land to show the Lord's glory - enemy territory can be a great location to lift up the Name of Jesus and let Him shine through us.

Father, I don't want to wait until I am in quiet, peaceful, promised circumstances before I give You all that I am. I want to walk in integrity and a spirit of excellence no matter where I am. Please help me. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
