To all who have faced seasons of seemingly not being able to "find" Jesus as you pray, may this offer you some comfort and encouragement. There was a time when those closest to Him could not seem to locate Him either...
We know the story of the boy Jesus who stayed behind when He was twelve years old...and how it took three days for Mary and Joseph to find Him. I remember when the Lord took this Scripture and made it very personal to me a few years ago. I was doing what I knew to do to seek Him and hear from Him without that feeling of bursting into His Presence. I landed on this passage, and Jesus' words spoke to my heart in such a powerful way:
"Why were you searching for Me?...Didn't you know I had to be in My Father's house?"
They knew Him. They should have known where to find Him. In that moment of my own personal revelation, I felt Him letting my spirit know that I know Him...and I know where to find Him.
He is found when I choose humility over my pride. He is found when I choose repentance over personal justification. He is found when I turn away from my own way and choose His.
I also think of His conversation with His disciples and how He told them that they knew the way to the place where He was going. Thomas couldn't help but speak up and ask Him about it:
“Lord, we don’t know where You are going, so how can we know the way?”
He proceeded to let them know that He is in fact the Way. He is the Way to find Him. He is the Path of Life. The way to truly search for Him is...well, it is Him. To know Him is to know the Way to get to Him.
Do you know Him? He is the Word made flesh, so I challenge you to pick up the Word and get to know Him. You cannot possibly find Him without seeking, and you have no idea where to look without Him.
Father, may my life be spent making sure that I am in Your path of life, seeking You until I find You. You have made known to me the paths of life...You have made known to me that Jesus is the Way to You. I choose Jesus. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
