The Reason for Every Season

This may seem rather blunt for me today, but it is directed at myself…so bluntly is the only way to write it. We say that He is the reason for the season, and we make sure everyone knows to keep Christ in Christmas. How about we remember that He is the reason for everything?

I don’t want to just make sure that He is the One that my traditions are honoring this time of year. I want to honor Him every moment. I don’t want to simply make sure I say “Merry Christmas” instead of “Happy Holidays” so that those who are easily offended by it know that I am bound and determined to say His Name this season. I want to lift up His Name constantly with every decision I make year round.

Don’t get me wrong, these things are definitely important. We are not to cave into the commercial atmosphere and just make Christmas about impressing everyone with the best gifts. However, I want to make sure I am just as passionate about celebrating Him – if not more so – when the lights and decorations are put back into the boxes. I want to make sure that all can see Him lifted high, even when they no longer see Him as the Baby in each nativity displayed.

Seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness has been strongly on my heart recently. Bottom line – it’s all about Him. Not just this season in which all celebrate Him, whether they recognize it or not. Always. Every day. He comes first. Every tradition, gift, and carol have to bow to Him. May Christ remain first within us when we are no longer making sure He is first in our celebrations.

Jesus is the definitely the reason for the season, and each season that follows. It is in Him that we live and move and have our being. I dare you to keep celebrating Him when there are no gifts under the tree.

Father, thank You for the joy we experience this time of year, and thank You for the joy we can experience every day in You. You are the reason we live. May we celebrate You always. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
