Back to the Beginning

Sometimes looking back isn’t enough…sometimes you gotta hit re-start and circle back around.

There are certain movies that will give a glimpse of the ending at the start of the movie, and then they make their way back to that scene at the close. There are certain songs that will repeat the opening line at the end of the song to cap it with a full-circle feel. Sometimes going back to the beginning is not only creatively good, but absolutely necessary in our walk with the Lord.

Several different Scriptures are stirring in my heart connecting to this thought. I see Jesus telling the women after His resurrection to let His disciples know to go to Galilee and “there they will see Me.” I see Jacob returning to Bethel at the Word of the Lord. I see Moses at the burning bush as the Lord tells him that the sign unto him would be that he would come back to that mountain and serve God there.

Then I see the apostle John exiled on Patmos, writing down what the Lord Jesus is speaking to him. He had to write a letter from the Lord to a church…

“I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My Name’s sake and have not become weary. Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.”

All of what the Lord was saying to them was a huge compliment, right? But the foundation of love was gone.

I challenge you to go back to the beginning. Go back to Bethel. Go to Galilee. Go back to where you first fell in love with Him and remember what stirred you onto this journey then.

Sometimes looking back isn’t enough…sometimes you gotta hit re-start and circle back around.

Father, I love when You stir those “beginning” memories in me. It does something re-ignite the passion that You sparked way back when. Help us to sense when we need a re-do, a re-start, a trip back to the beginning. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
