Let's Take a Walk
An individual's walk with the Lord is just that: an individual walk. I urge you to close your eyes and picture yourself taking steps down a pathway. Notice something, if you will...that path is narrow. There isn't always room for others walking right beside you. There isn't always room for the padding and comfort of a circle of dependence. Narrow can feel lonely, but there is no better way to get to know your Guide.
I took a walk a few years ago that led to a creek. It was an absolutely beautiful masterpiece of scenery that revisits me from time to time in the sweetest of those "moments with Him" memories. At the time the word "journey" was standing out to me, so it seemed fitting to stroll, climb, hike - whatever I needed to do to engrave the thoughts of my journey with Him on my heart.
I had walked down to the creek. Please note the word "down", as it was definitely an easier path on the way downhill. On the way back, there were two pieces of wood that seemed to be a cross that I needed to carry up with me. I remember there being times of struggle travelling uphill, and I actually leaned on the pieces of the "cross" I had with me. It occurs to me now as I replay this time in my heart that my walk with Him involves every aspect of knowing Him: the green pastures, the still waters, and the valley of the shadow of death.
I truly want to know Him in the power of His resurrection, in the fellowship of sharing in His sufferings, and becoming like Him in His death. I want to walk this narrow path right on His heels, holding His hand each step of the way. This journey that each of us takes is an individual one. I cannot walk the path He carved out for you in your place, neither can you take the steps that I am to take. But one thing is certain - each path to Him is a path with Him.
I invite you to lace up your shoes, pack a sacked lunch and take a step forward on your journey with Him. It is truly an adventure that cannot be matched. In the coming days - if the Lord is willing and enables me - I have a yearning to open this daily devotion into a Bible study. After all, the Word is the lamp for our feet and the light for our paths. I pray that you join me in opening the Word together. We may all travel different paths, but they lead in the same direction.
Father, thank You for inviting me into Your story, to walk down a pathway with You. Thank You for taking me by the hand and leading me through the good, the bad and the ugly of life. I pray that the Body of Christ will choose to take one step at a time with You on the narrow way that You spoke of in Your Word. Please lead us with Your unfailing Word. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
