Set in His Ways

“The way of the LORD is a refuge for the blameless, but it is the ruin of those who do evil.”

We each have a way of doing things, and my ways differ from yours. I have mentioned before how my husband is probably one of the most efficient people I know, while I tend to go the long way around in everything…unintentionally.

Recently I had to make a trip to a place I had been, yet was not completely comfortable with finding it on my own without GPS. Little did I know, GPS was taking me to a completely wrong location. My son got on the phone with my husband; I got on the phone with the people at the place where I was supposed to be going…all the while GPS was still talking to me. AAHHH! Needless to say, I got just a little frazzled. Each was telling me something different, but I was finally able to narrow it down to the one voice I trusted the most…my husband’s.

There may be many ways of doing things and different paths to take in this life, but there is One Voice to which I have learned to listen. One Voice that speaks and leads me the right way. I don’t want to know the easy way if it isn’t His way. I don’t want to know the quickest way if it isn’t His way. Because here’s the thing: He sees each path from beginning to end and knows which one I am to take. I’m thinking I should just trust Him.

Moses cried out for the Lord to teach him His ways that he may know Him and continue to find favor with Him. Later in Scripture it states that the Lord made known His deeds to Israel, but His ways to Moses. I want to get set in His ways, not in my own. Because as Jesus said to His disciples, He is the Way.

Father, I don’t want to choose my own way in independence. I don’t want to use the free will You have given me to select a path apart from You. Teach me Your ways, O God. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
