Cut It Off
"If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell."
The Word of the Lord is truly a sharp sword that cuts us deeply. It not only judges our actions, but the thoughts and intentions of our hearts. It pierces us to the point of not only letting us know the footsteps that we are taking in the wrong direction, but the path that we step onto that leads us to walk that way.
It can hurt to find out that there is something in our lives that doesn't please the Lord. We ask Him to search us, and then we see the offensive way within that we wanted Him to correct. It is painful to know that we have the ability to fall if left to ourselves. We are thankful for salvation from our past, but salvation didn't stop there. I don't need saving merely from my past...I need saving from myself.
(If you are reading this with self-righteous eyes, then I probably know how you are thinking. Those used to be the glasses I wore, too; however, mercy reached in and taught me how much I truly needed it. That there is nothing good in me but Jesus. and apart from Him I can do nothing. My self-righteousness is a pile of filthy rags...I need Him.)
So, how do you go about cutting off your right hand and plucking our your right eye? Allow the Word to reveal to you the path that leads you down the road of falling every time. Allow the Sword to sever you from the triggers of your weaknesses.
I challenge you to not be content to consistently stumble and repent, but to find out what causes you to stumble to begin with and deal with it.
Lord, You sent Your Son to not only die for us but to teach us how to live. I don't want to live by human nature and then keep running to You for forgiveness. I want to listen to Your way of doing things, because You desire and give grace to make me holy. I trust You. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
