Binding the Strong Man
"When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe. But when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor in which the man trusted and divides up his plunder."
There was a moment of divine revelation among the disciples once upon a time, as Peter professed who his Master and Teacher really was. This faith and boldness to proclaim it received an interesting response from the Lord. A response that I believe should be listened intently to by all who echo that faith and acknowledgment of the Lord Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus declared that He would give the keys of the kingdom of heaven...that whatever is bound on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever is loosed on earth will be loosed in heaven.
There are strongholds in our lives and in the lives of our loved ones that do not belong. I picture it like a terrorist group setting up a base in my own backyard. Would I just walk by and let them go about what they are doing? No! If we recognize physical threats and figure out how to take them down, why do we nonchalantly act like we have no power to mess with the spiritual issues that set up camp in our families?
I recently prayed for someone in intense battle, and the Scriptures on my heart were about binding and loosing...about binding the strong man and plundering the house. If there were terrorists in my backyard, I would call for someone strong enough to handle it. When there is an enemy stronghold in our lives, we need Someone strong enough to overpower it.
No matter the strong man that guards what he thinks belongs to him, the Lord is stronger. The Word is stronger. There are souls that are held captive by these "strong men." I believe its time the church that Jesus spoke of building rises up, because He said that the gates of Hades will not prevail against His church. It's time to pray and fast; it's time to walk in righteousness and wisdom. It's time to trust in the power of the Lord.
There are too many lives held captive for us to just proclaim we hold the keys - let's bind the strong man and set his prisoners free.
Father, I know that in myself I am weak, but I know that in You there is strength and power. You came to set the captives free, so let me be a vessel that You use to loose souls...leaving the enemy with his hands tied. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
