"I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory."
I am so thankful that I am able to say that I have witnessed the Lord do some pretty amazing things. There have been moments in His Presence in which I have been so awestruck that I have rushed to write it down, so that the moment would be captured if my memory failed. He definitely leaves an impression, and He often shakes things up a bit wherever He goes.
I read this morning in Matthew of the two men who were delivered from demon-possession. The demons asked the Lord if He had come to torment them before the time (meaning they understand there is coming a time for their judgment). They asked that if He was going to cast them out, that He would allow them to go into the herd of swine nearby...He gave them permission. Soon after this, the herd ran violently into the sea and drowned.
What would be your response if you witnessed this scene? Would you be awestruck at the authority of this Man? Would you be swept away by the love of this Son of God? Two men had just been delivered from demons! So what did the people of that region do? They begged Jesus to leave!
The Lord had stepped onto the scene and shook their world up a bit. The people of that region had grown accustomed to the two tomb-dwellers. They were used to those two guys that were so violent, no one could pass that way. But hey, their swine were taken care of and healthy. Their property was okay, so let's just keep things like they are.
The deliverance of these two men was followed by the destruction of this herd of swine, and the people couldn't handle the change...or who caused it. They begged Him to leave. I pray that the Lord will come in and mess our world up a bit. That He will show us what our priorities have become, showing us how we truly feel about His Presence when He does what He wants to do in our lives.
The demons begged that they could leave and go into the swine. The people begged Him to leave their area. I beg Him to take up residence and change whatever He wants to change.
Please, God, do whatever You want to do in my life. I don't want to drive You away when You mess with my plans. Take over in my life, Lord. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
