All About Timing
We are pretty familiar with the time and season chapter in Ecclesiastes. There is truly a time and season for everything. The key is finding out what time it is.
I have heard it said that success is when preparation meets opportunity…or something kind of like that. Sounds pretty accurate, but I also believe that success is in the eye of the beholder. The kind of success I desire is when patience and faith, combined with hard work and knowledge of the Lord’s will, meet with His timing. I don’t want to kick down a door when it may not be the right time for me to walk through it yet. I don’t want to doubt Him, nor do I want to waste time at the threshold when it is in fact time to step forward. Once again, the key is finding out what time it is.
I think of Ruth as she stepped out in obedience to her mother-in-law. Naomi gave specific instructions to wait at the threshing floor until Boaz had finished eating and drinking. To not make herself known until he had fallen asleep, weary from the work and satisfied from the meal. The timing was key. If she had thrown herself into the scene too early, she would most likely have been escorted out and frowned upon, as it is stated later by Boaz, “No one must know that a woman came to the threshing floor.”
I also think of Moses, the chosen deliverer of the children of Israel. Perhaps he sensed his calling to be the one to rescue them, as he defended a Hebrew at the cost of an Egyptian’s life. Deliverance and rescue were truly his calling, but the timing was not right. His maturity and development were perhaps still lacking to be able to handle the weight of all he was about to do.
Perhaps when we are still awaiting the manifestation of what we know God has promised it would be wise to learn this: maybe He isn’t just preparing the answer for us, but preparing us for the answer. Waiting upon the Lord brings renewal of strength…but it doesn’t mean to sit on your hands and do nothing. Trust His process in the waiting room.
Father, I want to be able to discern what time it is. I want to be in the center of Your will, even if that may mean the waiting room for the time being. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
