Wreck My Plans
"Many are the plans in a person's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails." -Proverbs 19:21
I am notorious in my household for not being much of a "plan ahead" kind of person. I guess it's because that when I do make specific plans about something, and then things tend to veer to the right or left--I am left feeling like I failed. So I resorted to a mindset early in life that has seemed to help: go with the flow and be ready for anything.
It is on my heart today how things don't always go our way. I have a specific routine that got sweetly interrupted this morning by my beautiful daughter. Normally I would quietly pout in my mind that I have to have my mornings a certain way (like I said, I get a little frazzled when what I have planned doesn't jive with what is actually happening), yet I am thankful for the grace of God that allowed me to enjoy the interruption today.
As I listened to my girl talk with me (cracking me up as she always does), I felt something in my heart that seemed to stand out to share: let the Lord wreck your plans. As I pondered this, I remembered that I had spoken something similar to this yesterday to my husband in a conversation. Maybe, just maybe, someone needs to know that those little interruptions in our lives serve a purpose.
I challenge you today to pay attention to the things that knock you off of your present course. Take note of the people that you didn't intend to come in contact with...perhaps it was the plan all along. If your heart is set on walking God's path, then let Him be the guide. Don't just quote Jeremiah 29:11, but choose to trust it. Don't get your eyes so focused on where you are trying to get to that you take them off of Jesus. It may be the interruptions that we brush off that He is using to guide us to where He wants us to go.
Father, please give me a sensitivity to know that You are in control and that You use the little things that I think are in the way to actually be the way to steer my course. I trust You. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
