Planted by the Waters

There are many references to trees in the Word, and I am sure that I do not have full comprehension of the depth of their meanings. I do, however, love the comparison of one who trusts the Lord being like a tree planted by the waters. There is no fear for lack of water, because there is a constant supply...a fresh source of life forever flowing nearby.

I actually read a different sort of comparison this morning. The Lord had compared a specific kingdom to a tall, beautiful tree. He had made this tree beautiful, yet it became proud of its height and beauty. We know that pride goes before destruction, so you can imagine the end of the story for the tree. What stands out to me are the connections, once again, to the waters.

"The waters made it grow; underground waters gave it height, with their rivers running around the place where it was planted."

"Thus it was beautiful in greatness and in the length of its branches, because its roots reached to abundant waters."

How far do your roots go into the Word? Do you spend your days waiting for fresh rain drops, or have you learned that there are certainly going to be seasons of drought? I don't know about you, but I don't want to wither and become weak during a dry season. I want to be able to face the heat of life and still bear fruit, with evidence of the life flowing through me in the constancy of the green leaves I display.

Father, I want to be planted in You, drawing consistent life from Your Word and Your Presence. The underground waters of the well of Your Spirit within me sustain me through whatever season must be endured. Thank You for abundant life. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
