"...casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ..."
We have heard it many times that the mind is the true battlefield. Our thoughts lead our actions. What is entertained and dwelt upon will eventually come to fruition. We have to be the ones standing guard.
So we come to the next portion of the armor...the helmet of salvation. How does salvation guard our minds? Well, we have been rescued from the power of sin and death by the blood of Jesus. We have been called into the family of the Father in heaven by being saved through faith in His Son. How does this knowledge and truth guard our minds? How does it not?
Clinging to the hope and assurance of belonging to God as His child, as His redeemed bride, gives us the power to tell our thoughts what to do. Without salvation, we are ruled by what sin tells us to do. We are in the vicious cycle of following our minds, rather than leading them. When we live as we truly are, saved by the Savior...we actually "have the mind of Christ."
If there are those who are not sure that the helmet is in your closet to even wear today, I invite you to come to Christ. I invite you to run to the One who can save you from the power of sin. Your mind is a battlefield. Make sure it is guarded heavily with salvation.
Father, thank You for saving me. Thank you that my mind doesn't have to be an open playground for whatever thought that lands there. You have given me power to take them captive and make them obey You. That is awesome. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
