We live in a world where there is constant threat against our daily lives. Our peace can be disrupted by a threat to destroy what keeps us comfortable. Our joy can be taken by a threat to ruin what makes us happy. Do we walk on eggshells when threats bombard the walls we have in place around us? Should we walk in fear, always wondering what could happen to us due to another’s sin?
I cannot live in a bubble, and I am not able to wrap my children in one either. But I can pray. I can live without fear. I choose to lift my eyes to the One who is the wall around me. I choose to trust what He promised to those who belong to Him: No weapon formed against us shall prosper.
Sadly there are those who feed off of the fear they cause and choose to control others with it. So what is the remedy? As always, the solution is found in the Word:
“Don’t fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” – Jesus
If I choose to obey God—walking in the fear of the Lord—no matter what threat may come to fruition in my life, I win. Yes, the thief comes to steal, kill and destroy, but we know Him who came to give us abundant life! If I live always looking for the thief around the corner, the devil behind every bush, my abundant life is being robbed from me already.
I ask you to pray for courage to face the world’s danger with the faith to quench its flaming arrows. I ask you to pray for the kids who may not understand how to live without fear in an atmosphere where they should feel safe. Abundant life is possible even today. It doesn’t mean the removal of the threat…rather the choice to walk in joy in spite of it.
Father, we are in the safest place in the world, Your hands. Let us choose to dwell in Your secret place, knowing that we rest in Your shadow. Thank You for peace that cannot be taken and joy that cannot be stopped. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
