“I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation…”
I flipped the page on one of those flip calendars to show today’s date this morning. This verse was written on the page…just this portion of it. I got cracked up a little, because it sounded like, “I know the secret to being content, but I’m not telling you.” I imagined if someone unfamiliar with the verses surrounding it were to read it, they would be like, “Seriously?!”
My heart started filling up with thoughts of, “Do we do that on a daily basis?” We who have been entrusted with the love and the Word of God, do we withhold these from others? Do we live as if we know a secret, yet refuse to tell it?
I have truly learned the secret of being content no matter the situation in which I find myself. I don’t want to withhold this information, as I don’t hold the monopoly on the love of my Lord. However, on the other hand I realize how others may abuse the secret that I know.
Yes, we have been given much, so much is indeed required. We must guard what has been entrusted to us; we must not cast pearls before swine. However, we must offer to the world our knowledge of this secret.
I see Jesus with a group of thousands sitting around Him, listening intently to what He had to say. So He told them stories. He hid the secrets of His kingdom within parables. He knew that some would be so excited to pick up a shovel and dig out the true meaning, while others would walk away…only wanting His miracles, not His heart.
I choose to live in a way that others will want to know the secret of the joy I have in all circumstances, the secret of the peace in every storm, the secret of being truly and deeply content. I want them to want to know that we can go through anything with Christ, because Christ goes through everything with us.
Father, I love how You didn’t pour every secret into my heart at once when I was saved. As I have grown and drawn closer to You, You teach me little by little. You know what we can handle. Help us to be faithful over what You have entrusted to us. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
