King of the Jews

I keep meditating on the thought of Jesus as King this morning. We all know to proclaim Him as King of kings and Lord of lords. We remember His being born King of the Jews without Herod's approval. We can read of Pilate asking Him of His kingship. But what does all this mean to you?

I remember sitting in Sunday School maybe sixteen or seventeen years ago, and the lesson being taught was about the "kingdom of God." I could not wrap my mind around what the full meaning of this was. I tried so hard to grasp what Jesus referred to as He told parables comparing His kingdom to different things. Of course, spiritual things are not understood with the mind, but with the spirit. (I am in no way saying I have a full understanding today, but I praise God that He saw my hunger to know and has been teaching me all along.)

The sign placed above His head as He hung between heaven and earth was this:

They protested that Pilate wrote it this way, but I truly believe Pilate saw Him as the King of the Jews. He acknowledged the fact that a King was being killed for no reason other than the envy of others. I love that Pilate answered their protests with, "What I have written, I have written."

Is He King in your heart? Do you wait to see Him on a throne before you can completely grasp that there is a kingdom with Jesus as King? Or can you think of the cross and know that your King was once robed in shame and crowned with thorns? That when He referred to Himself as being lifted up, it meant on a cross in suffering? My King became My sin that I might be made the righteousness of God through Him. How can I do anything but bow in love?

Lord, You are the Ruler, the Most High of all. And so, I proclaim You as King over my heart, as well. Let everything within me bow to You every moment of every day. You alone are worthy of my worship and service. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
