Things Above

I saw some of those purple patches of the hope of spring yesterday. Those sweet little spurts of beauty scattered in fields that just some seem to pop up overnight stir in me more than the thought that spring is near; I look at them and am reminded of my grandfather. I used to say how much I love those purple flowers, and he would always pick at me and say that they are weeds, not flowers. Now more than I long for spring, I long to see him again and let him talk to me about those “flowers.”

What stirs you to look toward eternity? What makes you pause a minute in the midst of the busyness of life and causes you to look up and yearn for home?

We are to set our hearts on things above, where Jesus is. When I think of setting my heart, it makes me think of setting a watch or clock to the right time. You have to find out the accurate time and then make the needed adjustments to the timepiece. Do we know what time it is? Where do we look to find the accurate time?

We better be looking in the Word, and we better be searching for Him in His Presence. If we dare to set our heart to the ticking of this world’s clock, we are gonna miss it.

There will be many distractions and countless attacks in the fight to be eternally-minded. I challenge you to find out the accurate time and make the needed adjustments. We are citizens of heaven…don’t get comfortable till you get home.

Father, I long to see You and be where You are. I want to be faithful while I wait. Don’t let me get in step with the ebb and flow of this world and lose track of time. Help me to keep looking up, to keep looking for You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
