My kids and I finished reading and dissecting the book of Esther the other night. We talked about how the Lord’s Name is not even mentioned once in all ten chapters; and yet, His Presence cannot be denied in all of the circumstances and timing.
You don’t have to go around screaming the Name of Jesus for people to know that you are His. You don’t have to cover yourself in cross necklaces and t-shirts for His Presence to shine through your life. He should be evident. Jesus said to let your light shine before others, so that these others would see your good deeds and glorify the Father. Let your light shine.
What does that mean? Does that mean to simply walk around talking about church? Does that mean making sure that all around you think that you are a good person, maybe better than them because they are sinners? How do we let the light shine the right way?
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’”
If we follow Him, we will have the light of life. If we have the light of life, it should be bursting from us in all that we do.
I want to live in such a way that my life is a beacon that draws others to want to know why I am different. Why do I have joy when I shouldn’t? Why do I have peace in the middle of a storm? Why? We are to be ready to give the reason for the hope that is in us…let us make sure that we cause others to want to know the reason.
When your light shines through integrity and character, you don’t have to mention His Name constantly…His Name is written all over you.
Father, I want to be a lamp on a stand with Your light shining forth. Not to blind others but to lead them to You. Please help us to be the lighthouse, the city on a hill that cannot be hidden. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
