Wait for It...
Some say, “Drumroll please.” Some say, “Wait for it.” No matter what is said to preclude an anticipated revelation, there is an element of waiting in the process. This is our favorite thing to do, right? Sure, that’s why we have microwaves and drive-thru restaurants. It is all too evident that one of our hardest lessons to learn is that of patiently waiting.
About sixteen years ago I felt the Lord speak to my spirit. I remember so clearly the word “wait” being a key part of what He was relaying to me. Sure, it was an amazing goose bump moment…but I still look back and wonder if the me then had any clue what waiting actually entailed. It meant to wait.
We love to quote the Scripture: “Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall run and not grow weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Like I said, we love to quote it. Do we love to practice it? I wonder if sometimes we picture the meaning of it as us sitting and waiting for God to move, then all of a sudden we have supernatural strength to encounter whatever we face.
I believe that what the Lord has taught me over this past sixteen years is that strength doesn’t just appear at the end of the waiting period…it is developed throughout it. Strength comes in the waiting.
Do not give up on God. His plan is worth waiting for, and His strength is worth fighting patience-killers. In our weakness, His strength is made perfect. Wait patiently, wait actively. Trust Him in the process, knowing that soon your wings will have developed to the point of mounting up and soaring. Then fly.
Father, I know that I get in a hurry and attempt to rush things that should not be rushed. Help me to wait upon You, truly trusting that You know exactly what You are doing…and exactly when to do it. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
