Read His Word

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Fasting. Prayer. What else could be a crucial element in the search for a deeper relationship with the Lord? His Word!!!

We have to read the Word of God! It isn’t optional. Heaven and earth will pass away, but His Words will never pass away. The Word was with God in the beginning, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Reading the Bible is placing more and more of Jesus Christ within us, continuing to leave less and less room for ourselves.

I’m not just talking about reading the verses we like and skipping over the ones that we don’t understand. We must read it all. Don’t get me wrong, I completely understand that it is hard to completely understand. However, the point is not always to comprehend every single verse, but to place them within our hearts. The Holy Spirit is able to give us understanding when we are ready, but He will not force-feed us.

I have sort of an interesting story relating to this. A few years ago, I awoke one morning speaking almost out loud the word “Nahash”. I could not for the life of me remember anyone by this name in the Word. I proceeded to research, extremely curious if the Lord was speaking to me about something. It so happened that Nahash the Ammonite was crucial in the transition from Saul being the reluctant king to Saul being one whom the Lord had anointed, as the Holy Spirit came upon him to rescue Jabesh Gilead from this enemy’s hand. Nahash means “serpent.” I strongly feel that the Lord was definitely showing me something.

I say all of that to say that I had read this at some point, with no immediate recollection of course. The Lord is able to draw from the well within us, but we have to be the ones filling ourselves up with water!

Just read.

Make a commitment to regularly pull up to the table of His Word. You may not always be served what you want to eat, but you will always be served what you need. The more you eat, the more you crave…and no matter how full you think you are, there is always room for more.

Father, Your Word is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword. Your Word is the Sword of the Spirit. May we never dare to think that we can step onto the battlefield unarmed. I don’t want to take for granted that I have Your Words within my hands…I want to hide them consistently in my heart, that I might not sin against You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
