What Are You Thinking?

October 24, 2017

So, I am one of those people that occasionally has moments of brain lapse...I'm sure no one else can relate to just having a mental block and forgetting what you are supposed to do in a situation.  (I'm not gonna lie, sometimes it's just fun because of the look on my husband's face when it happens.)

I think of a moment when I worked at Walmart about 20 years ago.  Though management did not believe me, I had honestly experienced a break in good judgment that cost the store some money.  I was very hurt and shocked to be accused of helping someone get something for much cheaper than it actually cost.  I was very naive, an extremely sheltered eighteen year old who could not grasp why a manager would be talking to me the way he was.  I genuinely did not realize at the time that I was doing something wrong...and he genuinely did not buy the mental block moment, the only explanation I had.

What are we thinking?  The mind may seem to power down at some crucial moments in life, but it doesn't.  It keeps going, even while we sleep.  Does your mind have a mind of its own?  Do you allow it to slip into autopilot?

This past week has been a challenge as the stimuli have been a little different in my world.  I don't have work or typical house duties to occupy my thoughts.  Limitations have caused me to spend more time in my head than in routine.  Yes, it is frustrating, but honestly I am thankful for whatever the Lord can use to shake me up a little.

Maybe, just maybe, He wants me to realize the part I can play in the renewal of my mind, the power that I have to fill my mind with His Word rather than meaningless junk.

I also feel stirred to realize the part I can play to encourage you to think about your thoughts.  Where your mind leads, your life will follow.  I dare you to take the reins and place them in the hands of the Holy Spirit.  Take a moment to stop and ask yourself:  "What are you thinking?"

Father, I don't want to conform to the mindless robotic pattern of the world.  I want to be transformed by the renewing of my mind.  I want my thoughts to be filled with You, to be acceptable to You.  Take control, Lord.  You have given me the mind of Christ...and Your thoughts are much higher than mine.  In Jesus' Name.  Amen.
