Have you ever felt completely clueless? Have you ever been in a conversation with someone, all the while shaking your head and thinking, “I have no idea what you are talking about”?
It isn’t pleasant to feel an un-intelligence about a subject, to feel ignorant. It is embarrassing when someone asks me about cooking something, decorating, etc.—my scope of knowledge somehow bypassed these areas. Basically, we don’t like to feel stupid.
However, as I watched a program the other day with a gentleman relating in a very intelligent manner insight into the book of Revelation, I realized that it was a pleasant feeling to not completely “get” everything.
I found myself thankful that I am not able to completely explain my God and His Word. If I were able to do so easily, would that make Him explainable? If I were able to unravel all of the mysteries hidden in His Word, wouldn’t that mean that I have completely figured the Lord out…that He no longer can amaze me?
Just so you know, I have not completely figured Him out…and neither has anyone else on the planet. We serve a big, amazing, mind-blowing, eternal, invisible, powerful God. There is an infinite amount of “I don’t know”, and an infinite amount of “I want to find out.” What you can’t explain, I dare you to choose to believe…and love.
Father, You surpass my understanding. Maybe that is why I shouldn’t lean on it—I should lean on Yours. Please continue to blow my mind, yet draw me to know You as much as I am able. You amaze me, Lord. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
