Stained

I sat in my comfy chair this morning, cup of coffee in hand, and had one of those near spill experiences. Praise the Lord nothing happened, but my mind’s eye started to picture the outcome if it had taken a wrong turn…if I would have ended up wearing the coffee rather than drinking it.

While pondering the direction to write this morning, this kept popping up in my mind. The near spill. The portrait of the possible stain on one of my favorite shirts.

To stain is to “mark something with colored patches or dirty marks that are not easily removed”. In what way are you marked? Do you carry the stains of sin and guilt, pain and hurt? It is true that these stains are not removed by human ability. No matter how much we scrub with achievements, good works, etc., we are not able to get the stains out on our own.

How about we trade the stains of sin with a beautiful Blood stain? How about we dive into the amazing paradox of the love of God—becoming white as snow by being washed in crimson grace?

I want to be marked by the Blood of Jesus, smeared with the oil of His anointing…stained by His love.

Father, please pour the perfume of Your Name upon me and soak me with it. Let the cup of Your goodness, Your love, Your perfect will be spilled upon me today—so that I may gladly carry the stain of Your Presence in my life. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
