Backsliding

September 20, 2017

I heard this term growing up in church, and I guess I never really wanted to dig into its full meaning.  I don’t like the thought of someone walking with the Lord one moment, then walking with the world the next.

Don’t get me wrong, I know that mistakes and stumbling happen.  We are human, and we have all sinned and fallen short of the Lord’s glory.  But we don’t have to stay down when we fall.  I think sometimes the enemy convinces us that if we trip up, we must be destined to lose—destined to mess up and never get it right.

If you could hear my heart right now, it is screaming for those deceived into thinking they shouldn’t trust in grace anymore…those convinced that walking with the Lord is too much effort.  What benefit does sin offer?!  It leads straight to death!  Please wake up and turn around before it is too late.

Below there is a passage of Scripture listed about King Asa.  He started out on the right path with the Lord, but in the end he turned to man and would not seek God even in his affliction.  This actually happens!  Whether it is a slow fade or a quick turning out of bitterness—people walk away from their love for God.  This breaks my heart so much!

I challenge you to inventory your heart.  If you are not walking as closely with the Lord as you once did, please make every effort to chase Him.  Don’t wake up one day wondering what happened.

Lord, I cry out for all who have turned away from You, for all who may not even realize that they have done so…please draw them back into Your arms.  Lord, help me to guard my own heart…to consistently pursue You so that I never wake up one day wondering where You are. In Jesus’ Name.  Amen.
