“Do not be in a hurry to leave the king’s presence.”
Time is a valuable thing. There are schedules, deadlines, places to go and people to meet. We try to stretch time, squeeze time, kill time and make time. Life can become such a rat race that a calendar and alarm clock are essential to daily function.
I realize that the Scripture mentioned above is in reference to an earthly king in its context. However, it has surfaced in my spirit more than once recently in reference to time with my King.
Granted, there are things that “need” to be done, and for integrity’s sake they need to be done on time. But one thing is truly “needed”—daily time with the King and for the King. When my life clock is set to the ticking beat of the flow of His Spirit, life works out so much more smoothly.
I found myself almost being rude yesterday in a situation in which I didn’t have “time” to finish a conversation with someone. I was gently nodding my head and offering feedback, all the while focusing on what I had to do next. Lord, forgive me.
What if the Lord had done the same with the woman with the issue of blood?
Lord, You are the One who is, who was, and who is to come. You are eternal. You are the One who has given me time on this earth for a short while, so I pray that You will help me to be a faithful steward of that time. Never let me be in a rush to leave Your Presence, and never let me hurry away from showing Your love to someone. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
