Count the Cost

August 29, 2017

“…go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.”

What is nearness to the Lord worth to you?  What price are you willing to pay to walk closely with Him?

It would be easy to sit back and allow another to seek the Lord, all the while just waiting to hear secondhand what He has to say.  It would be easy to live off of another’s anointing, just hoping to absorb some of Him through them.  It would be easy to leech off of someone else…but easy doesn’t carry you all the way.

The Lord spoke of John the Baptist as “a lamp that burned and gave light”.  He spoke of how people chose to enjoy his light for a time.  We can bask in the glow of one who chooses a life of obedience, enjoying the overflow of what cost them dearly.  We can allow the Moses in our lives to draw near to the Lord, to pay the price of holiness on our behalf.  We can allow someone else to press on toward the Lord for us…but then what if we run out of oil?

Don’t get me wrong, I love to hear the Lord speak through messengers called and chosen by Him.  I am extremely thankful for ministers who dedicate their lives to know what “the Spirit says to the churches.” But I am determined to know Him for myself.

To hear the Lord speak through another only fuels me to hear His voice.  To see the Lord move through another only ignites me to present myself as a vessel.

Lord, may there be a hunger rising up in Your church to not only have enough of You through someone else to help us get by from day to day…but to be willing to pay whatever price necessary to be as close to You as possible.  Salvation is free, but the anointing will cost us.  Lord, I count the cost, and I know that You are worth it all.
