If you are one of those people who never does anything wrong, this is not for you. If you are the type that never makes wrong decisions, never crosses the line, but always lives perfectly…just look away. This is for all who deal with mistakes. This is for all who battle with guilt. This is for all who can acknowledge their humanity…
Sin no more.
I was reading last night, and my eyes ran across this familiar line that Jesus spoke. However, the context was not that of the Lord speaking to the woman caught in adultery, as you may suppose. It was actually when He encountered the man beside the pool of Bethesda. It hit me in such a powerful way that the Lord had said this to more than one person.
There is no possible way for me to time travel and correct past mistakes (that would be quite amazing, not gonna lie). I cannot reach back and fix the past. But what I can do is choose to live differently from this point on; I can sin no more.
My Lord doesn’t condemn…but He also doesn’t condone. He doesn’t set us free so that we can live however we want. He doesn’t deliver us from Egypt so that we can worship the gods of Egypt in route to Canaan. Jesus does not turn a blind eye and call it forgiveness. He forgives and places us on the path in a new direction.
Jesus did not tell the woman who was caught in adultery that she could go back to doing what she was doing, that it was okay.
He has forgiven the past, but He has also provided grace for the present.
Go and sin no more.
Scripture to read:
Father, I thank You that You do not ever hold the past over my head. But more than that, I thank You that You gave me the grace to walk differently in You. You are so faithful and so forgiving…don’t let us think that we can abuse that and live how we want. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
