Dear Self

August 17, 2017

Dear Self,

Not to be rude, but you are really in the way today.  Already.  Yes, I know we have known each other for a long time, but I am tired of letting you walk over me.  You are constantly trying to get what you want, and it is getting old.

Don’t you understand that when I have spent my time in the past trying to make sure you were comfortable and secure, that it actually drained me of true joy?  It was only when I would leave you behind and care for others that life felt amazing.  You are so selfish…and I have no desire to please you anymore.

My heart belongs to Another now—to One who gave Himself for me.  He has bought my life with His own, and so I don’t have to do what you want…I am His.

He has shown me that there is no greater love than the laying down of one’s life for his friends.  He did this for me, so how can I not do the same for Him?  Yes, this involves you.  Yes, we have to visit Gethsemane again today.  And yes, you must go to the cross.

This is a public execution, because I want the world to witness your crucifixion in every decision I make and every word I speak.  I want the enemy to see that you are not going to win today, so that he can feel the sting of his own defeat.

Go ahead and surrender now…because this is going to be a good day.

Scripture to read:

Galatians 2:20

Luke 22:39-46

John 15:13

Romans 8:5-8

Prayer:

Lord, I lay down my life and give my “self” to live for You.  I choose to surrender to Your will, not my own.  I refuse to let my feelings and my opinions rule me today. I need You to take the reins and lead.  In Jesus’ Name.  Amen.
