“In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.”
What is faith? You may begin to answer by quoting Hebrews 11, or you may think of one of those trust tests with people falling off of stuff into another’s arms. Today I dare you to think of a shield. How big of a shield? Well, that depends on how much faith in the Lord you dare to exercise.
Every piece of the armor of God is crucial, but the shield of faith stands out to me today. (The Holy Spirit is so kind to remind us of what to do in situations, if we would just listen.)
I awoke early this morning and began the morning routine. Because I was the only one awake, I attempted to float through this routine as quietly as possible. Soon (sitting with my Bible and a cup of coffee), I realized how much I had already been bombarded by negative thoughts.
Concerns that would face me when I hit the doors at work and similar worrisome thoughts were filling my mind to the point that it was a challenge to still my soul to quietness and just be with the Lord. AAHHHH!!! No amount of coffee can soothe me to the point that the negative just goes away. (I would love to say that I wake up floating on a cloud, and that nothing but angels’ voices fills my consciousness. But sorry, let’s be real.)
It was like there was an enemy sniper shooting flaming arrows at me from a distance, waiting to see which one would take root. Sweetly, my Best Friend reminded me to take up the shield of faith. Duh! This shield doesn’t stop the arrow from being aimed and fired, but it completely quenches its flames.
It was such a triumphant feeling to smile and say out loud: “I know whom I have believed, and I am fully convinced that He is able to keep that which I have committed to Him until that day.”
What would easily have caused me to start off my day on the wrong foot actually led me to fight to make sure I remember who made this day, and why I should rejoice in it. Doesn’t it just crack you up when the Lord uses the enemy’s weapons against him?
Let faith arise today!
Scripture to read:
2 Timothy 1:12
Lord, I love You so much, and I enjoy watching You defeat the enemy. I trust You, and I know that this trust protects me. Don’t ever let me lower the shield of faith as I walk with You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
