Investments, retirement, savings accounts and all things financial…I am not even going to pretend like I know all of the ins and outs of this topic. In our society there is the knowledge that we need to save for down the road, though it appears that a good many of us live for here and now.
The priority to enjoy life everyday vs. the priority to make sure your kids enjoy it later. Money is a big deal—whether we like it or not.
So I am just curious…what does the currency of heaven look like? Most of us have heard that we are to lay up treasures there, so that nothing can touch it. If our treasure is with the Lord, our heart is with the Lord. We tend to be driven by what has our focus. So what savings account is driving me?
Am I making deposits of faith in eternity? Am I sewing hope into people, a hope of glory that adds souls to the kingdom of God? Am I living a life of love—love that will precede me to my heavenly home? Am I pouring the Word into my children…my treasures on earth that I long to carry with me?
Do we seek the treasure of the wisdom of God—living in the fear of the One who owns the cattle of a thousand hills? Do we waste precious time worrying about the needs that God Himself provides for us? He is able to give grace to view money correctly, to handle it wisely, and to make sure that He masters it (rather than it mastering us).
I challenge you to truly lay up treasures in heaven, to be absolutely certain that the glory of your eternal home surpasses that of any retirement home you may enjoy on earth.
Scripture to read:
1 Corinthians 13
Father, I thank You for blessings here and the wisdom to manage them in a way that pleases You. But I thank You even more that they are temporary. Help me to concentrate more on what is eternal than on what will not last. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
