Thankful?

July 24, 2017

It has been on my heart recently—and has actually broken it—that I have a tendency to wake up with anxiety for the day ahead more than with gratitude for all that the Lord has given me.  Am I truly thankful for the countless blessings I am saturated with each day?  Or do I take them for granted?  I am ashamed to say that typically the latter is true.

With this said, I feel a stirring in me to go beyond just a quiet “Thank You” and to give God praise and honor for how good He is.  Yes, the enemy has come to steal, kill and destroy.  Yes, I feel the evidence of attack on a regular basis.  But the One who is in me—that One who is greater than my enemy—He has come to give me abundant life.  And I don’t want another minute to pass without my recognizing it.

I am married to an amazing man of God.  A man who truly puts his family before himself every single day.  A man who loves me for who I am, and doesn’t let a day pass without letting me know how much.

I was given two of the most beautiful children ever created.  A tender-hearted, creative and artistic son who is becoming a man after God’s own heart.  A hilarious and gifted songbird of a daughter whose boldness shines for the Lord.  Both of my children love Jesus, have given their hearts to Him and are filled with His Spirit.  If I dare to face today with anxiety, may the Lord thump me in the forehead!

Yes, I know these “Thank You” notes have been personal to me, but I know that if we each dig deep we can write our own every morning.

Current blessings may not take away future stressors, but thankfulness and praise prepares us to face them with the right attitude.  Life is gonna happen, but true life has already been given.  It is up to us to look up and allow the good from above to outshine everything else.  I dare you to give thanks in all things…out loud.

Scripture to read:

1 Thessalonians 5:18

Ecclesiastes 11:10

Philippians 4:6-8

John 10:10

Psalm 100

Psalm 103

James 1:17

Matthew 3:17

Prayer:

Father, when I think of all You have done for me, given to me…when I just think of who You are, I cannot help but be thankful.  Help me to think on these things more.  Help me to meditate on You and Your Word more.  I lift my eyes to You.  In Jesus’ Name.  Amen.
