Go in the Strength You Have

July 21, 2017

Self-esteem has always been a struggle for me.

“Do not think more highly of yourself than you ought.”  This is one of those verses that the enemy loves to use against me.  (Ask Jesus, it happens.)  So rather than thinking highly at all, I tend to gravitate to thinking I am always the one in the wrong or always the one who made the mistake.  If you have been around me any length of time, you have probably heard me apologize once, twice… or 70 times.

I am certain I am not the only one like this.  I see people who walk around with their heads hanging down, almost apologetic for taking up space.  I know the feeling!  It is horrible to feel like you are not good enough, and that you never will be.

So why in the world would God choose someone like that?  Let’s just ask Gideon, shall we?  Let’s ask the man who was least in his family, in a clan that was the weakest of his tribe.  Let’s ask the one who should have been the last one chosen to lead the charge against the enemy to save Israel…at least in his mind.  Let’s ask the one who heard this…

“The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”

“Go in the strength you have…”

The strength I have?  He doesn’t require us to offer more than He has given us, only what we have.  Even when we feel that what we have is way less than what someone else could offer.

To all of you who struggle with holding your head high.  To all of you who think that your best is never going to be as good as it should be.  To all of you who know not to put confidence in the flesh, yet go to the extremes in thinking that God could never have confidence in you.  To all of you who are in the same boat with me…

The Lord is with us.  He doesn’t require the strong to show His strength, but the strength that the weak are willing to offer.  Lift up your head, and be content with who you are.

Scripture to read:

Judge 6-7

Romans 12:3

Matthew 4

1 Corinthians 1:28

Revelation 3:8

Lord, I trust You, and my confidence is in You.  You have created in me exactly as You chose, and that is enough.  I offer the strength that I have for Your purpose.  In Jesus’ Name.  Amen.
