I have an amazing, yet often overlooked, reason to praise the Lord this morning—I woke up again. I opened my eyes one more time to the blessings that I am overtaken by each day, and that I often take for granted. However, as I gathered energy to face the day, inevitably the day also faced me.
It would be cool to say that rather than rolling out of bed aware of the daily struggle, that I spring out of the bed with an almost cartoon-like energy. It would be so wonderful to say that I never hit snooze, but that I leap with innate joy to my feet at the sound of an alarm. Yes, all of this would be great to say…if only it were all true.
No matter how much victory over my flesh I gained yesterday, I have to put on my armor again today. No matter how much I resisted the devil yesterday, I have to do it all over again today. No matter how near I drew to the Lord yesterday, it is a must that I find Him again today.
Are you waiting to get to a mountaintop moment that causes you to have an autopilot “spiritual” mode, an automatic holiness that engulfs you so that you don’t have to crucify your flesh anymore? How is that working out for you? Just face it—you are just as human today as you were yesterday, and you will be human tomorrow, too.
Not to sound rude, but you’re gonna have to get over it. Don’t let it get over you. You have the ability to take up your cross daily and follow Christ. You have the choice to listen to your flesh or to the Holy Spirit.
Wake up! Open your eyes, face your flesh, and leave it pinned on the mat. Sure, it will be there again tomorrow…but so will the Lord.
Scripture to read:
1 Corinthians 15
Father, I woke up in my flesh again. I still cannot see You, but I still know that You are with me. Thank You for one more day to live for You. Help me to do so with every breath You give me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
