Make a Decision

“Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Okay, so if you were to run a search on the word “indecisive”, my picture may possibly pop up on the screen. When I was a little girl (who loved playing with Barbie dolls), I would occasionally be given the opportunity to pick out some new clothes for my dolls when we went to the store. I remember it taking forever to know for sure which ones I wanted to choose. I also remember my parents being very frustrated with this.

Even now, my husband asks me to choose something like a restaurant—and I genuinely do not care which one—and if it takes a little while, he literally has to tell me, “Make a decision.” (Don’t you wish you could just air out all of your flaws like this?)

“Stand at the crossroads and look…”

“How long will you waver between two opinions…”

“Choose you this day whom you will serve…”

How often do we float along through life like driftwood, waiting for a “Bam!” moment to happen? Waiting for God’s purpose for us to fall into our laps? What if He is standing on the water saying, “Come”? Should we just wait until we can maneuver our boat over to where He is without making any waves? Or will we choose to have the courage to step out of the boat?

I don’t know what this may mean in your case. It could apply in small decisions, or in huge life-changing ones. You may be at a turning point in your life, and you are scraping to find the faith to make the right choice. I challenge you now to “ask for the ancient paths”, to find out the road that those who have walked by faith have travelled. Don’t be afraid to do what God wants. Even if you are the only one walking on water….you are walking on water!!

The Lord has set before us life and death, blessing and cursing—make a decision.

Lord, I choose You today. Whatever path You are leading me on, I choose to keep walking with You. You have never led me astray, and I know You never will. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
