We have seen photos and videos of what an earthquake can do. The powerful impact of two pieces of the surface of the earth shifting and moving…it is terrifying. What about when the earthquake isn’t the “earth” at all? What about when there is a shifting in our lives, a transition in our happenings? Whether planned or unplanned, change can cause tremors that shake us up a little bit.
There is a physical battle that I am fighting right now, and it is my desire that God receives glory through it. What in the world does that have to do with quaking and change? Well, one connection of my vertebrae doesn’t always stay connected. It occasionally “shifts.” There is a slipping that, in extreme moments, causes spasms and pain in my back and legs. It has drawn me to wonder what the Lord could possibly show me through this.
The Lord announced to Israel that He will “once more shake the heavens and the earth." That the glory of the latter house would be greater than the glory of the former.
There are times that we must go through a shaking, a shifting—a change. There are times of transition in our lives that cause spasms and tremors, even pain. But if we can trust God through it, perhaps He is shaking us into a new season.
Scripture: Haggai 2:6-9
O God, I desire to see You a do a new thing in me. And I realize that this means that old stuff must be shaken off and discarded. Please hold me through the shifting and keep me focused on You. I cannot wait to see what You do next. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
