Let It Go
It is amazing how some things seem to happen in slow motion, yet we are still powerless to stop it. A menial occurrence can have more than a menial teaching effect if we pay attention. My favorite coffee mug slipped out of my hand earlier, and I watched it become broken and useless. A thought occurred to me as I reluctantly cleaned up and threw away something temporal that I just really liked: sometimes we have no choice but to let go.
Have you ever prayed that if there is something in your life that you may not be willing to let go of—something that could come between you and the Lord—that He would just take it? I dare you. You may soon find out what it is you hold on to more dearly than you should. It could be a favorite TV show that has trumped your time with the Lord. It could be an unhealthy relationship that is pulling you away from Him. It could be bitterness, a hurt that you have yet been able to forgive.
It is dangerous when you attempt to hold hands with the world and with the Lord at the same time…the one that you tend to grip more tightly will reveal the one that actually grips you. I don’t want to get to the point that I am forced to let go of something. I want to grab hold of Jesus with both hands, knowing that everything I cannot hold onto also fits in His hands. It is impossible to please Him without faith…are we trying to hold onto something because we don’t trust Him enough to let it go?
Take hold of the life that is truly life. Let no man take your crown.
What is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
Find out what deserves to be held onto, and don’t let it slip from your hands. But find out what holds onto you…and do whatever it takes to let it go.
Scripture to read:
1 Kings 11:2
1 Timothy 6:19
2 Corinthians 4:18
Lord, I choose to hold onto You and let go of what would hold onto me. I choose You. I trust You with everything that concerns me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
