Wake Up

When I was a kid, I would always strive to be the first one to wake up on Saturday morning, so that I could beat my brother to play on the Nintendo. Yes, Mario and Tetris were awaiting me, and I couldn’t imagine him playing it first. The game system was in his room, so I would quietly tiptoe and then play it muted. One morning, I was able to enjoy a front-row seat of him talking in his sleep. I will never forget how funny it was!

How often do we witness the world living asleep? For that matter, how often do we see the church sleepwalking and talking? We have been rocked and cradled, desensitized to the evil that we are surrounded by daily, to the point that some have fallen asleep spiritually. And it is anything but funny.

It is time for the church to awaken. It is time to arise and shine. It is said not to wake up one who is sleepwalking, but I feel a stirring to scream, “Wake up, O sleeper! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

If we are to call the lost out of their graves, we must be alive ourselves. Can these bones live? Can the scattered army that has been slain, that has dried up beyond ability to battle, rise up again? It is time to speak the Word of the Lord. It is time to receive the Breath of God, the rushing mighty wind. It is time to wake up and stand on our feet.

If you have found your life to be a valley of dry bones…if you look around and all of what you thought God was going to do seems to be dead—speak life! It wasn’t in Ezekiel’s words or in his power to raise an army. But bones heard the Word of the Lord. The dead can hear His voice. Find out what He is saying, and speak it.

“Awake, my soul. Awake, harp and lyre. I will awaken the dawn.”

Scripture to read:

Ephesians 5:14

Isaiah 60:1-3

Ezekiel 37

John 5:28

Psalm 57:8

Psalm 16

Acts 2

.Father, I ask You to breathe on the dry bones in my life. I ask You to put an urgency within me to wake up those who are sleeping. You have made known to me the paths of life, so help me to lead others out of spiritual death. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
