This Is War
Okay, I have to admit that I grew up watching professional wrestling on television. My favorite to watch was the Ultimate Warrior. He didn’t do a lot of the prancing-around, talking smack stuff like the others did. He was just a strong and passionate warrior. Of course, I knew later on that the wrestling was completely a show, fake in every way…a soap opera of sorts. But I loved the fight. I loved the excitement of it.
We as Christians are very well versed in quoting, “We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers…”—but I have to ask, do we wrestle as much as we quote that? I’m pretty sure the enemy knows the difference when we are all talk, and when we actually get into the ring ready to contend for the faith.
One crucial thing to remember as we face each day’s battlefield is that we are not fighting alone. It is not a tag-team match with the Lord—we get to show up for battle and watch Him fight for us. Put on the full armor of God. Put on the Lord Jesus Christ. Stand in righteousness, walk in truth. Always be ready to proclaim the gospel, the hope that lives in you. Guard your mind with His salvation. Walk behind the shield of faith, not the blindness of your own understanding. Learn how to wield the Sword of the Word. Because your enemy will use it against you, if you don’t.
It is true that we wrestle not against flesh and blood…except our own. Don’t dare step into the ring until your flesh is lying on the sideline crucified.
Scripture to read:
2 Corinthians 10:3-5
2 Chronicles 20
Lord, You are truly with me like a mighty Warrior. You are the armor that I hide in, and You are the Sword that I cling to…You never fail. You never lose. So I will fight to get to You, and then I will let You fight for me. Thank You for victory in You alone. In the powerful Name of Jesus. Amen.
